Requirements
Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Practitioner. Registration with a Professional Council: Registration with the HPCSA as Medical Practitioner. Inherent requirement of the job: A valid (Code B/EB) driver's licence and willingness to travel throughout the Western Cape. Competencies (knowledge/skills): Excellent leadership, interpersonal and organisation skills. Good communication, including report writing and presentation skills. Computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office. Ability to function independently and work under pressure. Ability to critically read, summarise, and communicate contents of technical and scientific nature. Appropriate and sufficient clinical experience since obtaining the degree of MBChB and after completion of medical community service. A postgraduate diploma in Occupational Health, or equivalent.
Duties
Provide technical support to the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness (WCGHW) in occupational health risks assessments and risk management in public health facilities in the Western Cape. Contribute to the development of a framework for occupational health services for WCGHW staff. Provide technical Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) advisory support to WCGHW. Practice clinical medicine in the field of occupational medicine and related disciplines. Develop staff and student literacy and expertise in Occupational Health and Safety and provide student supervision in Public Health research methods. Conduct research relevant to Occupational Health.

No payment of any kind is required when applying for this post. “Candidates who are not in possession of the stipulated registration requirements may also apply. This concession is only applicable to health professionals who apply for the first time for registration in a specific category with the relevant council (including individuals who must apply for a change in registration status). Consideration will be given to existing employees who are already on higher salary packages to retain their existing salary position, as personal. As such they are entitled to receive pay progression. Appointment as Registrar will be for a maximum contract period of 4/5 years. Employees in service who opt to continue with their pension benefits as Registrar, will be required to resign after completion of their registrarship should they not be successful for advertised Specialist positions.
